Review: NARS Climax Mascara

I recently purchased this new mascara from NARS that everybody keeps talking about.

I believe this is the very first mascara that the brand releases. NARS is a great makeup brand, I own several of their products and they never disappoint. This mascara retails for $24.00 USD. It’s definitely a high end price, it only comesΒ  in one version which I believe is not waterproof.

I went ahead and read the description of the Sephora website to see what this mascara promises. And here is what they have to say:

Sounds pretty dreamy, right? Ok… so let’s try this bad boy. I will be wearing this mascara the way I wear all my other mascaras. I get up in the morning around 7am to go to work and get home by 5pm. So here is what my eyes look look like with no makeup:

And after applying my regular 2-3 coats of mascara, here is what my eyes look like with the NARS Climax one:

I then went on my way to work and right when I got there, 2 hours after applied this is what they looked like:

Not too bad, not too bad, my eyelashes stopped being so spidery and they looked so nice and curled. I remember a lot of the reviews said that they love this mascara because when you touch them, they’re so flexible. Like it doesn’t feel like there is any mascara one them which was honestly the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced.

A few hours after, I took my lunch break. At this point it was around 5 hours after I applied the mascara in the A.M. and this is what it looked like:

Umm.. I was started to get worried at this point. Do you guys see all that dirt on my underye? Those were NOT dark circles, it was all from the mascara and if you look close there are little bits of mascara all over my under eye and in some creases as well. Also, can we talk about how faded the mascara looks like at this point? When I compare this to the original photo with I just applied it looks so different.

Moving on.. I got home from work around 5ish PM and at this point the mascara was on for about 11 hours. And this is what it looked like:

At this point I already knew I was going to return the mascara. This is what it looks like when I come home from work? The fading doesn’t really bother me that much but the fact that I have a lot of black crap under my eye is totally not ok. Specially for a mascara that I paid $24 for.

I decided to keep it on for even longer just to see what is the worst that could happen and this is what the mascara looked like right before I started getting ready for bed, at this point it was 15 hours of wear:

Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse…
Definitely super sad about this mascara, I really really wanted to love it. It makes my eyelashes look beautiful but it definitely fades. If they would make this in a waterproof version (which NARS, please do!) I would 100% buy it. My eyelashes looked seriously so big and full when I just applied it and they were so incredibly soft and not “crunchy” and stiff (if that makes sense haha.

Here is the mascara wand compared to my two all-time favorite mascaras. It seems like the NARS one is sort of an in between of the other two wands. Weird huh? I definitely recommend these other two mascaras, depending on what your budget is, they are both amazing!
